Germany Monday announced it will provide 193 million euros in assistance to Jordan, state media here reported.

The assistance will be used to support Jordan's financial sector as well as water and energy projects, Xinhua quoted Jordan's Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation as saying.

Jordan emphasised the importance of the aid as it continues to grapple with the influx of large numbers of Syrian refugees.

There are more than 600,000 Syrian refugees in Jordan, according to official statistics.

Germany is among the top five countries in the EU that accommodates Syrian asylum-seekers and in 2013 Germany became the single largest recipient of new asylum claims from Syria.
