Veteran journalist George Varghese, who worked for the United News of India (UNI) for over three decades, passed away Tuesday night after a brief illness. He was 67.
Varghese is survived by his son Girish and daughter Surya. His wife had pre-deceased him some years ago.
The body was kept at the Kerala House here for people to pay their last respects.
Varghese, who joined UNI in 1972 and retired as news coordinator, was a member of the Board of Prasar Bharati, the national broadcasting corporation, till March this year.
He served as president of the Delhi chapter of the World Malayalee Council and as treasurer of the national council of YMCAs of India.
Before joining UNI, Verghese worked briefly as a lecturer at St Thomas College in Kerala.
