A juvenile has been apprehended for killing his 68-year employer to rob her as he came across a large sum of money in her cupboard a day after joining duty as a domestic help in her house, police said on Thursday.
The juvenile was held on early Thursday from Etawah in Uttar Pradesh, on way to his residence in Jharkhand.
Police said that he had boarded a train for Jharkhand from New Delhi railway station a few hours after killing his employer Shanti Chopra at her house in Paharganj area in central Delhi on Wednesday evening.
"Chopra had hired the juvenile as a domestic help a week ago. She used to live along with her two sons but she was alone at the time of the incident," a police official said.
Victim's maternal grandson Shivam, who had come to meet her, informed police after finding her body in a pool of blood.
The official said that the juvenile, who hails from Gumla in Jharkhand, had noticed huge amount of cash in the almirah of the victim on August 20 and made a robbery plan.
"On Wednesday evening he attacked the victim on her head with a wooden stick used in washing clothes. He then took out the cash and fled," the official said.
"The robbed cash amounting to around Rs.3.70 lakh has been recovered from his possession," said the official, adding the juvenile has been sent to a reformation home.
