Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has a torn knee muscle and has begun therapy, the Italian club have confirmed.
Chiellini, 33, is to undergo further examinations in the coming days, according to a statement on the club's official web site on Monday, which did not say how long his recovery might take, reports EFE news agency.
"Following the examinations, in which appropriate caution was taken due to the nature of the injury, it has been revealed that Chiellini suffered a tear to the biceps femoris muscle in his left knee," Juventus said.
Chiellini sustained his injury during his side's Serie A 1-0 defeat against Napoli on Sunday.
Serie A defending champion Juventus leads the Italian league standings with 85 points, one point ahead of second-placed Napoli, with four games remaining.
