Kanyakumari-based Noorul Islam University which developed a 220 KW solar power plant at its NIMS Medicity campus near here will replicate the project in the East African country of Rwanda.
The plant powers the cardiac catheterization lab making it Asia's first Green Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
M.S. Faizal Khan, managing director, NIMS Medicity & Pro Chancellor, Noorul Islam University told IANS that senior UN officials and the chairman of the World Energy Council had visited their campus.
The varsity has been invited to make a presentation on the solar power plant at the upcoming second Sustainable Energy for All Forum organised by the United Nations in New York from May 18 to 21.
The plant has been set up under the guidance of former ISRO chairman G. Madhavan Nair.
The project will be replicated to power three hospitals in Rwanda, said Khan.
The monthly electricity bill at the NIMS hospital has come down from Rs.22 lakhs to Rs.13 lakhs, said Khan.
