The state-run Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation's (KSRTC) services to neighbouring Tamil Nadu were hit on Friday after the Supreme Court's verdict on the Cauvery river water, an official said.

"The buses from both the states (Karnataka and Tamil Nadu) are operating only up to the state border as of now as advised by the police officials," the General Manager (Traffic) of KSRTC K.S. Vishwanath told IANS here.

"The bus services have been running normally till 12 p.m. but a few buses entering Tamil Nadu have been stopped by the police at Attibele check post (30 km southeast of Bengaluru on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border)," KSRTC spokesperson T.S. Latha told IANS.

Buses from Mysuru region towards Coimbatore and Ooty in Tamil Nadu have not been operating since morning, she added.

The Supreme Court in its verdict on Friday reduced Tamil Nadu's share of the Cauvery river water to 177.25 thousand million cubic feet (tmcft) down from 192 tmcft allocated by the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal in 2007.

Security has been stepped up in the region, including Bengaluru, Mandya, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar to maintain law and order in view of the verdict.
