Assuring easy access to healthcare and education for labourers in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched the 'Shramik Vikas Mission' at an event here on the occasion of Labour Day.

Stressing on the need to give priority to the working class, Kejriwal on Friday said under the new project, action would be taken against employers who do not pay minimum wages to workers, while financial entitlements for construction workers will be enhanced.

In addition, those employed in the unorganised sector will get pension under the 'Dilli Swavlamban Yojna'.

"We will amend the existing minimum wages act by adding stringent punishment for those who do not pay minimum wages to their workers. We will bring the amendment in the June session of the Vidhan Sabha," Kejriwal said while ensuring justice to the workers from organised and unorganised sector.

He further said that houses would be provided to slum dwellers and their shanties would not be razed.

Kejriwal also also promised uninterrupted supply of power and drinking water to all.

"We have already taken up the matter (not to raze slum clusters) with Ministry of Railways and at the same time we will also talk to the DDA (Delhi Development Authority)."

Delhi's Labour Minister Gopal Rai, said that the dedicated Shramik helpline -- 12789 -- that seeks to redress labour grievances was being strengthened with the addition of five more lines.
