Berlin, April 15 (Xinhua) US Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday said he is confident US President Barack Obama will be able to negotiate an agreement with Iran on its nuclear programme.
Addressing a meeting of foreign ministers of the world's seven leading industrial countries (G7) in the northern German city of Luebeck, Kerry said that the challenge is to "finish the negotiation with Iran over the course of the next two-and-a-half months", Xinhua news agency reported.
The US government and a group of senators reached a compromise in a dispute over a planned agreement with Iran on Tuesday in Washington.
In a separate statement, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said he welcomed the UN Security Council's decision about the resolution against arms delivery to the Houthis in Yemen.
However, he noted that despite some progress, "we are far away from a situation in which we are able to calm the situation to de-escalate or to find a political solution."
The main themes of the two-day G7 meeting, which kicked off on Tuesday, include the Ukraine conflict, the situation in the Middle East and the fight against terrorism.
