President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday condemned the violence that erupted in Haryana, Punjab and Delhi after Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted in a rape case, and appealed for peace.
"Violence and damage to public property after court verdict is highly condemnable; appeal to all citizens to maintain peace," the President tweeted.
His remarks came after 30 people were killed in violence in Haryana after a CBI court in Panchkula convicted Baba Ram Rahim in a rape case.
Private and government property was vandalised in Haryana, Punjab and Delhi by Dera supporters.
