In a corporate social responsibility initiative, infrastructure conglomerate L&T will build 5,000 toilets, the company announced Sunday.
"A.M. Naik, group executive chairman, announced a major CSR initiative that would add traction to the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' programme recently launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Independence Day," L&T said in a statement here.
"Objectives of L&T's ongoing CSR programme were aligned to the mission of 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'," the statement added.
L&T said the company along with L&T Public Charitable Trust was committed to building India's social infrastructure.
The investments will cover water supply and distribution, sanitation, healthcare and skill training institutes.
The company would build 2,000 toilets initially and progressively scale it up to 5,000.
