Left supporters joining Trinamool: Mukul Roy

Claiming that it was the mouthpiece of those who believed in Leftist ideology, the Trinamool Congress Tuesday said supporters of the Left were now switching alliance to it.

"Responsible people and supporters of the Left parties who believe in the ideology are now joining the Trinamool," party general secretary Mukul Roy told media persons here.

During the day, two councillors of the Left Front and 14 from the Congress including the chairperson of the Krishnangar Municipality joined the Trinamool.

Stressing that his party was benefiting at the eroding support base of the Leftists, Roy said the development was reflected in recent panchayat and municipal elections.

He said Trinamool has been championing the causes of the downtrodden and the toiling masses.

"We have protested against the introduction of foreign direct investment including in pension sector, protested again rise in prices of essential commodities, and fertilizers. Trinamool Congress has not only protested, our leaders have also resigned as ministers in protest," Roy said.
