The popular light and sound show at the Lucknow Residency, which fell on bad times some six years back, is likely to be restarted soon, officials said here on Wednesday.

Lucknow DM Raj Shekhar visited the Residency and General Wali Kothi late on Tuesday and told media persons that the much awaited light and sound show will recommence soon.

The Rajkiya Nirman Nigam (RNN) has already been allotted Rs 5 crore by the state tourism department for setting up the lighting and sound instruments and the script, and the setup plan is awaiting the final nod from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

"A 19-minute short film and another shorter version of 10 minutes, both in Hindi and English, have been produced to popularise the History of Luckow and Residency, in particular," the DM told IANS.

As of now, plans are afoot to screen the short films in the hall at 'General Wali Kothi' near Chhattar Manzil, he further said.

ASI has requested the district administration to promote this new project, especially among the school children.

The district authorities have also asked the ASI to develop 'General Wali Kothi' as the 'Lucknow Photo Gallery' as also the site for screening short movies.

The district tourism promotion board has agreed to fund upto Rs 10 lakh for developing the 'Lucknow Photo Gallery', Raj Shekhar added.

The Residency, also called the British Residency and Residency Complex, is a group of several building in a common precinct in the city. It now exists in ruins and was constructed during the rule of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan II, who was the fifth nawab wazir of Oudh from January 21, 1798 to July 11, 1814.
