Four persons, including a man and his daughter, were killed in a lightning strike in West Bengal's Bankura district as thundershower lashed parts of the state on Tuesday, police said.
"A father and his daughter lost their lives in lightning while passing through an open field in Bankura's Jaypur during thundershower," a police officer said.
"One more person was killed in (the district's) Onda and another in Sonamukhi area," he added.
Massive showers coupled with heavy winds also hit Kolkata and the two 24 Parganas districts, temporarily throwing traffic out of gear.
Some roads in north and central Kolkata went under ankle-deep water following heavy downpour for an hour. The movement of vehicles were also hampered in parts of the city due to felling of trees.
