The condition of eminent litterateur Mahasweta Devi, who is on life support, continues to be critical, one of the doctors attending on her said here on Sunday.
"Her condition continues to be critical. There is infection in her blood (that) we are trying to contain. She continues to be on ventilation," said the doctor at the hospital where Mahasweta Devi has been undergoing treatment.
The 90-year-old acclaimed writer and activist suffers from various ailments and was put on non-invasive ventilation on Thursday after her condition worsened.
Mahasweta Devi has been honoured with numerous awards, including Sahitya Akademi Award (Bengali) in 1979, Jnanpith Award in 1996, and Padma Vibhushan in 2006.
