West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday condoled the death of Thailand King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
"My condolences to the people of Thailand on the passing away of His Royal highness Bhumibol Adulyadej, King of Thailand, rest in peace." Banerjee said in a social media message.
The news of the Thai King's death comes ahead of Mamata's scheduled visit to Thailand as a speaker in the Bangkok Global Asian conference in November this year.
The widely revered King of Thailand who died at the age of 88 was the longest reigning monarch in the world, wielding the sceptre for 70 years.
The King had been in poor health in recent years and made very few public appearances. In an official statement, the Thailand palace announced his demise on Thursday.
