West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Tuesday launched a separate department to boost the welfare of tribals in the state.
Banerjee herself would be in charge of the new department.
"Representatives from the tribal community requested me to set up this department. I will be personally in charge of the department," she said at the programme organised by the newly set up tribal development department.
"We will soon hold a meeting of the newly formed development council for this department."
Unveiling a slew of development projects for the welfare of the state's tribal community, Banerjee urged people to come forward and be stakeholders in the growth, development of society and work in government sector.
