A man in his 40s was Monday arrested in Bihar's Bhagalpur district on charges of raping a five-year-old girl, police said.
District police official Kanhiya Lal said Pankaj Shah was arrested in Sitarampur village after a complaint was filed by the girl's father.
He was presented in a court which sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.
Pankaj Shah, a father of two minor children, is a close relative of the girl.
Police said he lured the girl by promising her a packet of potato chips and raped her in the godown of his tent rental firm.
The girl was found unconscious near the door of her house and was admitted to a local hospital for treatment. But when her condition deteriorated, she was taken to a hospital in Bhagalpur.
Pankaj Shah has claimed innocence.
Police said a charge sheet would be filed after receiving reports of the medical tests conducted on the girl.
