A man was shot dead by the police in east London on Monday after he made threats claiming he had a gun, officials said.
The man believed to be in his 40s made threats in the Collier Row area of Romford, the BBC reported. He was shot by officers at about 4.45 a.m. and was pronounced dead, according to the Metropolitan Police.
The shooting was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as well as to the Met's Directorate of Professional Standards.
The IOPC confirmed it had launched its own investigation into the fatal shooting. A spokesman said: "Our investigators have been deployed to the scene and post-incident procedure to begin inquiries."
