A man, pretending to be a junior engineer, was arrested here for extorting money from builders after threatening that he would halt their work, an official with the anti-corruption bureau said Wednesday.
Anil Dutt Sharma, 54, was caught red handed Tuesday while taking Rs.50,000 from a builder in east Delhi's Seelampur area.
"Sharma was threatening the complainant that he would halt his construction work and demanded Rs.1 lakh," an anti-corruption bureau official told IANS.
Contact numbers of many junior engineers of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi were found on Sharma's mobile phone, the official said.
The anti-corruption bureau officials said they were suspecting involvement of some civic agency officials in the extortion racket.
