Jail officials on Sunday brought six Manipur University professors for medical check-up from the Imphal Central Jail in handcuffs, triggering condemnation.
The Manipur University Teachers Association, the Manipur University Students Union and the Manipur University Staff Association condemned the police for heaping humiliation on the professors.
On the basis of an FIR filed by the pro Vice Chancellor, police and paramilitary personnel raided the boys' hostels and residences of the faculty on the campus on September 20 midnight to arrest the six professors and 80 students.
All of them have been in judicial custody since then.
