One Maoist was gunned down and two policemen received injuries in a gunfight on Friday at Basaguda village in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, police said.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (South Bastar Range) Ratan Lal Dangi said the Maoists opened fire at weekly Friday market in Basaguda.
"Five-six Maoists opened fire in the market in which two policemen Umesh Durgam and Shankar Punem sustained injuries," Dangi said.
In the retaliatory fire by the police, one Maoist was shot dead.
As the firing began, panic gripped the market area and people ran helter-skelter.
Condition of one of the injured policemen is stated to be serious and he is being shifted to Raipur, the officer said.
