Ahead of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls scheduled on Wednesday, the police here in Balaghat district was able to avoid a Maoist attack by killing one from a group of seven.
The Left Wing extremist was brought down during a Saturday encounter near the Godri village. There was also a woman insurgent in the group which was mostly in Khaki fatigues. The rest managed to flee, a police officer said.
To avoid any attacks ahead of the upcoming polls there is a huge deployment of security personnel along the borders with Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, especially in the Balaghat and Mandla districts, a police statement said.
