Moscow, May 9 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has shared pictures of his relatives who fought in World War II to mark the May 9 Victory Day of the erstwhile Soviet troops.
"On Victory Day! Eternal memory to those who defended the freedom of our Motherland! My grandfathers also experienced war: here is Afanasy Medvedev and Veniamin Shaposhnikov," says Medvedev's note attached to the photos on Facebook.
Within 40 minutes of the snapshots being posted on Facebook, they gathered over 1,000 "likes" and over 80 comments, mainly reciprocal congratulations on Victory Day.
May 9 saw celebrations across Russia, marking victory over Nazi Germany. Fireworks at 14 locations will culminate the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow at 10 p.m..
