The heat wave continued to sweep Odisha Saturday, with one town recording over 46 degrees Celsius, an official said.

The district headquarters town of Sambalpur, about 320 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, recorded 46.4 degrees Celsius, the highest this summer, an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.

Several places in the western parts of the state also recorded a maximum temperature between 44 and 45 degrees Celsius, making life miserable for people in the region.

The other places which recorded high temperatures include Hirakud, a town in Sambalpur district, and the district headquarters town of Bolangir. These towns recorded a maximum temperature of 45.6 and 45.5 degrees Celsius respectively, the official said.

The death toll due to sunstroke during this summer has remained at two so far, with no fresh incident of death reported from the state, an official in the office of the state relief commissioner said.

The weatherman has said that the heat wave conditions would continue for at least another two days.
