Lt Governor Najeeb Jung Monday flagged off six mobile vans which will sell onion and potato at cheaper rates to consumers here, an official statement said.

The initiative has been taken by the Delhi Agriculture Marketing Board and the Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium, an autonomous body under the agriculture ministry.

The produce will be sold in pre-packed and loose form. Several Resident Welfare Associations have come forward to coordinate the movement of the mobile vans.

"This is likely to have a calming effect on the prices of onion and potato in the city," the statement said.
