The Defence Ministry has disbursed over Rs 6,000 crore to defence forces' pensioners under the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
The ministry paid Rs 3,984 crores to 19,57,925 pensioners as the first instalment of their pending dues under the OROP scheme, while 15,41,316 pensioners received Rs 2,267 crore as the second instalment, Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre said in a written reply.
Last September, the government announced the implementation of the OROP scheme, which envisages the same pension for same rank and length of service, irrespective of the date of retirement.
