Modi wrote on Twitter: "Deeply concerned by the flood situation in Varanasi. PMO is closely monitoring the situation and is in touch with with local authorities."
He said the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) contingent was in the city to assist the affected people.
"NDRF teams are present at Varanasi for rescue and relief work. The MP office there is working round the clock to provide all assistance," he added.
