Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday lauded Chief Justice of India J. S. Khehar's suggestion that judges should work during vacations to reduce the pendency of cases.

"All of us must hear these insightful views of Hon'ble CJI Khehar during the sesquicentennial celebrations of the Allahabad High Court yesterday (Sunday)," Modi said in a tweet on Monday.

CJI Khehar in his address on Sunday suggested that judges should sit in courts for five days during a vacation and dispose of small cases which do not require much efforts. The CJI suggested that if each judge can clear 20-25 cases in a day, it will substantially reduce the pendency of cases in courts.

Appreciating the suggestion, Modi said, "Hon'ble CJI Khehar articulated what the people of India have desired for long. It will have a great impact and will hugely benefit the poor."

The Allahabad High Court is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its founding.

The Prime Minister on Sunday addressed the valedictory ceremony of the Sesquicentennial Celebrations of the high court along with Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Adityanath Yogi.
