Mumbai records highest rise in hotel spends: Report

Mumbai recorded the highest rise in hotel spends nationally during January-May period as compared to the like period last year, a market research report said on Wednesday.

According to the Hotel Price Index from Hotels.com, the average spends on hotels in the nation's commercial capital rose by five percent with an average of Rs.8,091.

This was followed by Delhi, at an average hotel spend of Rs.6,677. However, the spend had declined in the city by three percent as per the report.

While cities like Bengaluru and Pune both had a marginal rise of three percent, Goa -- which recorded the highest rise of 12 percent last year -- saw a minimal rise of three percent in the first six months of the current year with an average hotel spend of Rs.5,940.

The report said Chennai saw no change in price variation for hotel accommodation in the six months under consideration as compared to the same period last year whereas metro cities such as Kolkata and Hyderabad recorded a fall of two and three percent respectively.

Rajasthan's capital Jaipur - famous for its historical heritage - saw an increase of four percent in hotel spends at Rs.5,062 on the average.

Nationally, overall hotel prices paid by all travellers saw a marginal rise of just two percent in the first six months of 2015 to an average of Rs.6,411.
