In a joint operation, the army and the Assam Police busted a camp of the hardline faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in the wee hours of Wednesday and killed a cadre of the group in Assam's Kokrajhar district.
According to defence spokesman Lt. Col. Suneet Newton, the unidentified cadre was killed during the operation at the dense Ripu Reserve Forest in the district. "The slain terrorist was involved in the December 2014 massacre of the Adivasis," he said.
"One AK-56 along with a magazine and 30 live rounds were recovered," he said.
"The operation was carefully planned and launched swiftly wherein the elite troops moved in a tactical manner and closed in on the camp," he said, adding that the slain terrorist was known to be close to NDFB faction leader Bidai, and was involved in several cases of extortion and other criminal activities.
