New photos of director David Ayer's upcoming superhero film "Suicide Squad" have been released online.

One of the photos, which is originally taken from the newest edition of Empire magazine, shows actor Jared Leto in full costume as the Joker, reports aceshowbiz.com.

The photo reveals that the villainous character has the words "Joker" tattooed in giant letters across his stomach.

Besides the green hair and white makeup, the Joker also sports a crocodile-skin overcoat and wields a walking stick.

There are some other photos shown in the magazine.

One of them features Enchantress while another shows Deadshot having a conversation with a man.

There are also glimpses of Queen swinging inside jail and a behind-the-scenes photo which captures the Joker being interviewed.

"Suicide Squad" also stars Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Viola Davis, Jay Hernandez, Common and Scott Eastwood.

Ayer wrote the script alongside Justin Marks. Based on DC comic books, the movie is slated for a release in US on August 5 next year.
