Guided missile frigate Sanya joined China's People's Liberation Army Navy during a ceremony held Friday, according to military sources.
Independently developed and made by China, the Sanya is capable of attacking enemy ships and submarines and is especially adept in long distance vigilance and aerial defence combat, reports Xinhua.
The ship will serve as a new generation leading battleship for the Navy, sources said.
During Friday's ceremony, Wang Kai, captain of the Sanya, vowed that the ship's crew would manage and use their weapons well, strive to safeguard national sovereignty and contribute to building the country into a strong oceanic power.
