Victor Diaz's late goal gave CD Leganes a 1-0 win over Celta as the modest football club from Madrid made its debut in the Spanish first division here.
The newly promoted team was tentative at the start on Monday, allowing Celta to dominate possession, though the home side could not translate their dominance into shots on goal.
Improving as the match wore on, Leganes began to create chances, with David Timor coming close on a free kick and Adrian Martin forcing Celta goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez to make a good stop.
Celta reacted, powered by the pace of Theo Bongonda and the quality of Iago Aspas, and gradually reasserted control over the game.
The home team appeared to take the lead in the 36th minute with a goal by Aspas, but the marker was disallowed on the basis of a mistaken offside call.
Leganes looked ragged, though they recovered sufficiently to generate a solid scoring opportunity in the final seconds of the first half.
Aspas shot wide when he found himself alone in front of the Leganes keeper barely a minute into the second half.
With 15 minutes left, Diaz tipped the ball into the Celta net off a corner kick.
