The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Thursday issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government over the death of a newly born in a government hospital due to negligence.
The rights panel took suo motu cognizance of a media report that the premature baby boy, admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College in Meerut city, died from burn injuries due to an overheated incubator where he was kept.
"We have observed that the contents of the report, if true, raise serious issue of violation of right to health and have issued notices to the district magistrate and principal of the medical college, seeking reports within four weeks," the NHRC said in a statement.
According to the commission, the baby was born Dec 25 at a private nursing home in Muzaffarnagar town and was shifted to the medical college Dec 27.
