The Janata Parivar combine on Monday named Nitish Kumar as its chief ministerial candidate for the September-October Bihar assembly election.
The decision was announced by the leaders of the Janata Dal-United, Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Samajwadi Party here. The former constituent parties of the erstwhile Janata Dal alongwith the Janata Dal-Secular, Indian National Lok Dal and Samajwadi Janata Party have announced a merger to revive the united Janata Dal.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad said he agreed with the decision as no one in his family was interested in the post.
"No one in my family, or the RJD is interested in the chief ministerial post...," Lalu Prasad said at a press conference on Monday.
SP supremo Mulayam Singh announced Bihar Chief Minister and JD-U leader Nitish Kumar's name as their chief ministerial nominee.
Lalu Prasad emphasised that the Janata Parivar parties should stay united.
"It is the need of the hour that we all get united to stop the BJP," Lalu Prasad added.
