No decision has been taken by the Congress high command on the resignation offer by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, a party leader said here Thursday.
"He (Gogoi) expressed his desire to step down, but no decision has been taken. The legislators of Assam will decide on it," said C.P. Joshi, Congress general secretary in charge of Assam.
Joshi said the meeting between Gogoi and Congress president Sonia Gandhi was to apprise the latter about the political situation in the state.
Gogoi earlier said he wanted to quit as chief minister after the Congress bagged only three of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam in the recent polls.
