Commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland has decided to follow a "no discount policy" on its new products while planning to export its cargo carrier BOSS to US and Europe, a top company official said Wednesday.
"We will not be giving any discounts on BOSS (an intermediate commercial vehicle). We have put up a separate line for this. In the case of medium and heavy commercial vehicle segments, we have to follow the industry leader in offering discounts," Vinod K. Dasari, managing director, told reporters here.
Speaking to IANS, vice chairman V. Sumantran said the company has decided not to offer any discounts on its light commercial vehicle (LCV) range rolled out in partnership with Japan's Nissan Motor Company.
Ashok Leyland rolls out goods carrier DOST, passenger carrier STiLE in collaboration with Nissan. The company has plans to roll out more models from its Nissan joint venture to be sold through a separate dealer network for LCVs.
Dasari said the company plans to export BOSS with a hauling capacity between 9.6-12.9 tonne gross vehicle weight (GVW) to the US and Europe out of its plant in Uttarakhand.
He said the initial focus will be on launching BOSS across the country and exports will not be there for the next 3-6 months.
According to him, the ICV segment is logging good growth and the company hopes to increase its market share from the current 11 percent with launch of BOSS.
