Intense heat wave continued in Odisha as 10 places recorded maximum temperatures of above 40 degree Celsius on Tuesday.

Capital city Bhubaneswar was the hottest place in the state for fourth consecutive day, recording a high of 42.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

Baripada recorded 42 degree Celsius while industrial towns Talcher and Angul registered 41.9 and 41.7 degree Celsius respectively. Chandabali sizzled at 40.8 degree Celsius while mercury touched 40.5 degree Celsius in Titlagarh, Balasore and Bolangir.

The regional met centre said the heat wave situation will continue for next few days in the state.

However, people in some parts including Bhubaneswar received much-needed relief following rainfall in the afternoon under the impact of a norwester. Several trees were seen uprooted in Bhubaneswar after heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lashed the state capital.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government Tuesday further extended the summer vacation of the schools till June 25 in view of the prevailing heat wave across the state.

Earlier, the state government had directed the schools to extend the summer vacation till June 21.

The schools were earlier set to open on June 18. However, the summer vacation was extended twice due to the gradual rise in temperature.
