At least one person was wounded Monday morning in a shooting inside the Washington Navy Yard, the US Navy said.
The navy confirmed at least one injury following the incident, which happened inside a building that serves as the headquarters for the Naval Sea Systems Command, Xinhua reported.
The shooting was reported at 8.20 a.m. Three shots were fired and the shooter was still active, said the US Navy via its Twitter page.
CNN reported that several people were wounded in the shooting.
The Naval Sea Systems Command is the largest of the US Navy's five system commands, and around 3,000 people work there.
