Over 15,000 subscribers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) were found to have provided fake addresses and contact details to the state-owned service provider, an official said Monday.
"This is a huge number of subscribers in a city and after their CIF details were found missing on our server, necessary action was initiated," V.K. Shukla, chief general manager for BSNL (east), told IANS.
Following the discovery of subscribers with either incomplete customer identification forms (CIF) or having furnished fake details, warnings of disconnection were sent via text messages.
The service provider has asked subscribers to furnish all details within a week or face snapping of their connections.
While some people have come forward to fill in the details, a large number have still not been traced, the official said.
Subscribers, however, complained that complete forms had been submitted but were misplaced by the officials and now they are being made to pay for the latter's mistakes.
