Abandoned allegedly by her parents, a newborn girl with an unusually large head was rescued on Friday from West Bengal's Purulia district, police said.
Police rescued the baby after locals found her lying abandoned in a bush near the railway tracks in Purulia.
"The baby has been admitted to a hospital," said a police officer, adding that they were looking for the parents.
"The baby is suffering from congenital hydrocephalus. The unusual large head is due to accumulation of water. Her condition is very serious and chances of her survival are very remote," said attending doctor S. Banerjee.
"We are arranging to send her to a Kolkata hospital for better treatment," the doctor added.
