A segment of Delhi Metro's Pink Line -- connecting Majlis Park and Shiv Vihar -- has got the Safety Commissioner's approval and is ready to come into operation from next week, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on Thursday.
The transporter had the 20.6-km Majlis Park-Durgabai Deshmukh stretch of the line under trial since last month.
"The DMRC has received the clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for opening the Majlis Park-Durgabai Deshmukh Metro section today (Thursday).
"This line is likely to be opened for commercial operations next week after completion of all stipulations specified in the sanction," the Delhi Metro said in a statement.
The segment constitutes one-third of the entire 58-km-long line and has 12 stations including three interchange stations at Azadpur, Netaji Subhash Place and Rajouri Garden.
The three interchanging stations will connect commuters with Yellow Line (Huda City Centre-Samaypur Badli) at Azadpur, Red Line (Rithala-Dilshad Garden) at Netaji Subhash Place and Blue Line (Dwarka Sector 21-Noida City Centre) at Rajouri Garden.
It is on this very segment that the train will cross Dhaula Kuan at a height of 23.6 metres -- as high as a seven storey building). The line, once complete, will encircle almost entire Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Road), which is a crucial arterial road of the city.
