Phase I of Rs 700-crore 'Busopolis' in Mohali gets ready

Touted as first of its kind in the country, 'Busopolis' -- an inter-state bus terminal (ISBT) along with a commercial centre and a hotel -- will soon get operational in Punjab's Mohali town, adjoining Chandigarh.

Called the 'C&C Mohali Junction', the Rs 700-crore 'busopolis' will have not only an air-conditioned bus terminal but even a helipad.

The Phase I of the project, which includes the ISBT, has been completed and the process of handing it over to the Punjab government for operations has been initiated.

Phase-II, which includes retail areas and a 10-screen multiplex in Tower A of the complex, will be operational by June next year.

In Phase-III, towers B and C will be completed by the end of next year.

"The project is more about the place. It will be interesting to see how the lives of commuters change with the coming up of the Mohali Junction. The project will give accessibility, efficiency and convenience to business travellers. At the same time, there will be ample leisure facilities for travellers," C.V.S. Sehgal, Chief General Manager, C&C Constructions, said.

Derived from the concept of 'Aerotropolis' (mega airports), the Mohali busopolis promises to provide facilities to shop, eat, sleep, entertainment and even knowledge exchange under the same roof.

"Within the proximity of all major touch points in Chandigarh, the Mohali Junction will be your next trendy neighbourhood and a place to hang out at," a company spokesperson said here on Thursday.

"With connectivity and innovative commercial spaces playing a significant role in the country and state economies, the Mohali Junction is set to redefine the way we travel and conduct business," Sehgal said.

Spread over seven acres, the futuristic facility is strategically located in Mohali, along the National Highway 21, which links to major areas in Punjab and neighbouring Himachal Pradesh.

"The ISBT will be functional 24x7 so the people of Chandigarh and nearby areas have a night life where they can shop, eat, drink and enjoy," the spokesperson said.

The mega project, built under the public-private partnership mode with the government of Punjab, had earlier got delayed.
