Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to address a press conference in early January, informed sources said Saturday.

They said the press conference was likely to be held in the first week of January but the venue and date are not finalised.

The sources said it would be Manmohan Singh's second press conference during his second term as the prime minister though he has separately met groups of editors and TV editors.

Manmohan Singh is expected to address a wide array of questions related to performance of the United Progressive Alliance government.

He may also give his views on issues concerning the Congress as the party prepares for the Lok Sabha polls about five months away.

There have been suggestions from within the Congress that party vice president Rahul Gandhi be appointed the party's prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections at the meeting of the All India Congress Committee Jan 17.
