A working group that includes legislators, local representatives and police officers should be constituted to better address the grievances of the people of Delhi, the BJP state unit said Wednesday.

A delegation of the party consisting of legislators and led by Delhi party chief Satish Upadhyay met city police commissioner B.S. Bassi here and submitted a memorandum listing the grievances of Delhiites against the police force.

"A working group needs to be immediately constituted for cooperation between people and police. It should include local elected leaders, representatives of residents welfare associations and traders organisations as well as police officers," Upadhyay said.

"The group should meet at least once a month and the issues which are not resolved by the local police stations should be raised before senior officers," he added.

The memorandum mentioned several areas in which the police needed to focus more, including the rising incidents of molestation and eve-teasing of women in the city. The party advised that every police station should have one woman police inspector to address these issues.

The police were urged to deal sternly with organised sex rackets running in residential colonies and children being kidnapped by gangs involved in human trafficking. For this the police should form a task force in every district, said the memorandum.

The menace of drinking and gambling in public spaces especially in unauthorized colonies, vehicle theft, and smooth flow of traffic late at night among many other issues were also mentioned in the memorandum.

Bassi assured of action on the complaints, the statement said.
