One polling officer was killed and five others were injured Thursday in an attack by separatist guerrillas on a polling staff party in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, police said.
A senior police officer told IANS that polling staff was returning in a bus to the district headquarters in Shopian district from Nagbal polling station when they were fired upon by separatist guerrillas.
"One polling officer was killed in this militant attack while five others including two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers, a local policeman and two members of the polling staff - were injured."
This was the first major guerrilla attack on the polling staff in Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency which went to vote Thursday amid separatist boycott call and stone pelting incidents by youths at many places.
