Polling officially came to an end at 6 p.m. on Thursday in 25 constituencies in Cooch Behar and East Midnapore districts during the sixth and final phase of the West Bengal assembly polls.
The balloting began at 7 a.m. in nine constituencies of Cooch Behar and 16 in East Midnapore.
Overall, more than 74 percent of the 58,04,019 voters exercised their franchise in the first eight hours to bring the curtains down on the staggered month-long polls to the 294-member legislature in the eastern state.
However, balloting continued in most places beyond the scheduled deadline as there were still a lot of people in queues outside the booths.
