Abject poverty forced a teenaged girl to commit suicide Tuesday evening in village Hola of Mathura district, police said.

Dolly, 16, left a suicide note behind in which she said she was taking the extreme step due to poverty.

The villagers wanted to cremate her body but the police took it away for post-mortem examination.

Her father had died some years ago leaving behind her along with two sisters and two brothers. Her mother grazes goats for others.

Villagers said Dolly was about to be married in December but arranging dowry was proving to be a huge burden.
