President Pranab Mukherjee will attend the first convocation of the Indian Maritime University in Chennai Saturday, a Rashtrapati Bhavan release said Friday.
The university was formed by an act of parliament in 2008.
It encompasses in its fold the National Maritime Academy, Chennai; LBS College of Advanced Maritime Studies and Research, Mumbai; T.S. Chanakya, Mumbai; Marine Engineering and Research Institute, Mumbai; Marine Engineering and Research Institute, Kolkata; Indian Institute of Port Management, Kolkata; and the National Ship Design and Research Centre, Visakhapatnam.
The convocation will be held at the Chennai Trade Centre.
The university offers short-term courses in port and marine studies, and various degree courses including those in nautical science, marine engineering, ship building and repair.
