The French government will confer prestigious Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres award (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) on artist Bharti Kher for her contribution in contemporary art landscape on March 23, a statement said Friday.
French Ambassador Francois Richier will present the award to the British-born Indian sculpture whose work "The Skin Speaks a Language not its Own" fetched $1.5 million(Rs. 6.9 crore) at a Sotheby's auction in 2010.
A new book, that resulted from the artist's exhibition, "Misdemeanours" will also be released at the event. This exhibition is displayed at the Rockbund Art Museum, Shanghai.
The book has essays by the exhibition's curator, Sandhini Poddar, museum curator David Elliott, and a visual record of the exhibition, as well as selected earlier works.
